Wallpaper Hanging Instructions

NON-WOVEN WALLCOVERING HANGING INSTRUCTIONS

We recommend that all Ashleigh Mercia non-woven wallpapers are hung by a professional decorator. Please follow the guidance below to achieve the best possible finish.

Preparation

  • Ensure all walls are dry, clean, sound, and smooth.
  • Remove any existing wallpaper and loose or flaking paint.
  • Lightly sand painted surfaces to create a key for adhesion.
  • For the most professional results, we recommend cross-lining the walls with a good-quality lining paper.
  • Size the lining paper to aid adhesion and leave it to dry completely before hanging your wallcovering.

Pasting & Hanging

  • This is a paste-the-wall product. Apply adhesive directly to the wall, not the back of the wallpaper.
  • Use a high-quality, solvent-free, fungicide-protected ready-mixed adhesive specifically designed for non-woven paste-the-wall wallpapers.
  • Apply paste evenly to the wall, working one drop at a time, and slightly beyond the width of each length being hung.
  • Butt-join the edges and smooth the wallpaper using a decorator’s brush, working from the centre outwards to remove air bubbles.
  • Avoid over-working the seams or forcing excess paste out of the joints.
  • Keep paste away from the wallpaper’s surface and ensure hands, tools, and rollers are kept clean and dry throughout installation.
  • Paste will damage the printed surface. Should paste come into contact with the wallpaper, gently wipe it immediately with a clean, damp sponge while still wet.
  • Ashleigh Mercia cannot accept responsibility for any marks or damage caused by paste contact.

Caring for Your Wallpaper

To maintain the appearance of your wallpaper:

  • Clean gently using a clean, dry duster or the soft brush attachment of a vacuum cleaner.
  • Do not use water, detergents, or abrasive cleaning products.

Suitability in Moist Areas

Our wallpapers can be used in most interior spaces; however, areas with moisture—such as kitchens or bathrooms—may require additional protection.

  • We recommend applying a protective wallpaper varnish, such as Polyvine Decorators’ Varnish.
  • Always test the varnish on an unobtrusive area first, as it may alter the appearance of colours or finishes.

Important Information

These instructions are provided in good faith and are intended as a general guide.

As installation conditions vary and lie outside our control, it is the responsibility of the buyer or installer to ensure the environment and preparation are suitable for the wallcovering.
